Course Outline

The students will work on their technical development every term over the length of the course. This includes developing their jazz, lyrical, street, tap and contemporary dance techniques.
Learning about the performing arts industry, understanding auditions and preparing appropriate materials is a vital part of working in this industry.  Our students practise these skills via our simulated dance company production “Tripudio”.
Understanding the body, fitness and nutritional requirements are an important aspect of becoming a professional dancer. The focus is on ensuring our students understand how to fuel their bodies sufficiently, and keep them working well, for the rigorous demands of full-time dance career.
The students analyse multiple dance pieces to develop a deeper understanding of technique, composition skills and artistic development. They will then produce a completely original dance piece for a touring production of our simulated dance company production “Tripudio”. This task covers the entire process, from conceptualisation to performance.
Working in teams to create the performance they will work cooperatively with others and deal effectively with issues and problems, organise movement in order to compose a short dance sequence, prepare physically and psychologically for live performances, and incorporate artistic expression into dance performances.
All these tasks will be completed under the supervision of their trainer, experienced dancers and dance teachers.
The students will transform their group task into a longer dance production that includes group, solo and partner work, feature designed lighting, staging and edited music.  They  learn about makeup, hair and costume influences, application techniques and costume modifications, maintenance and repairs, then take this skill and apply it to their auditions, composition work and performances.

Each year RAW presents an end of year showcase.  This includes multiple dance genres in a range of solo, partner and ensemble work to showcase the diversity of our students and their amazing talent.  The culmination of a year’s hard work, many of our assessment tasks incorporate the rehearsals and performance of our showcase.
